lg hum sound

Postby crazyONe » Tue Oct 21, 2008 8:30 am

Hi there
I played last week the duel spontancup and I got the hum sound on every map when I played on the spontancup server.
So i am 100% sure the hum sounds were server related. Unfortunaley the servers are off but im going to ask chako (spontan admin) for the server configuration.

You're talking about this grumbling sound?

If i remember it correctly the humbling sound is not a "bug", or at least it wasn't in <1.2

But i agree, its annoying.. but it nearly never happens these days..

The LG should hum, that is correct (and IIRC the volume of hums was changed at some point, before which people didnt realise they should hum). However there is a known bug (although not known how to reproduce, so all info is appreciated) that the hums get stuck, even when you're not using the LG any more.

There are two varieties of this bug:
- hum stuck to the local player, when not using an LG.
- hum stuck at a fixed point in the map.

There have been various fixes along the way which has stopped most of the causes of them, which is why these days I think they're fairly rare. I think the remaining cause is tied to "poor performance", so it probably just means the server was overloaded.

I guess you are talking about the shaft "beam" sound.. and not about the alot deeper grumbling sound.

Start q4base 1.2, Fire - and then the sound that appears after you've stopped shooting.

Pretty old, heh. Maybe well known but the stuck sound may be related to usesmp 1. With usesmp 1 it happens quite often (every 2-3 map). After disabling (usesmp 0) I had not had this issue anymore (ca. 20-30 games at least).
1.4.2 linux client + 0.82 q4max here, i386.
